Why Every Caravan Park Is Already Booked for Christmas (And What You Can Do About It)
The Rebooking Cycle Explained
Here is the frustrating truth: many caravan park guests book their next Christmas stay before they even leave. Some parks actively encourage this, offering returning guests first right of refusal on the same site for the following year.
This creates a cycle where the most popular sites are effectively locked up year after year by the same families. For newcomers trying to experience these parks for the first time, it can feel impossible.

Get Started FreeThis is a genuine debate in the caravanning community. On one side, loyal guests argue they have earned their spot through years of patronage. On the other, newcomers rightly point out that it shuts them out entirely.
Some parks have started addressing this by:
- Limiting consecutive rebookings — allowing guests to rebook the same site for a maximum of 2–3 consecutive years before it goes back into the general pool
- Lottery systems — holding a ballot for peak-period sites rather than first-come-first-served
- Rotating site allocation — guaranteeing returning guests a site, but not necessarily the same one
What You Can Actually Do
Watch for cancellations
Life happens. People cancel bookings all the time, even for Christmas. Check back regularly — especially 2–3 months before Christmas when people firm up their plans.
Look beyond the obvious parks
The most booked-out parks are usually the well-known coastal ones. But there are hundreds of brilliant smaller parks, council-run campgrounds, and station stays that rarely fill up completely.
Try shoulder dates
Boxing Day through to New Year is often easier to book than the week before Christmas. Consider splitting your trip: spend Christmas Day at a free camp or with family, then head to your park for the New Year period.
Join park loyalty programs
Big4, Discovery Parks, and Top Tourist all offer member benefits. Some provide early booking access for members, giving you a head start on the general public.
Ask about waitlists
Even if a park shows as fully booked, call and ask to be put on their cancellation waitlist. Many parks maintain these lists and will contact you if a spot opens up.
Plan Your Alternative Now
The best antidote to frustration is preparation. Use KamperHub to research multiple parks in your target region, compare facilities, and save them to your trip plan. When one option falls through, you have got backups ready to book immediately.
