New Feature: Journey Planning — Build Your Adventure One Leg at a Time

Big news from the road! I'm writing this from the passenger seat (don't worry, my wife's driving) somewhere between Coolongolook and Nabiac on the NSW South Coast. And that's exactly why this update exists.

I've been building KamperHub while actually using it on the road. Every bump, every missed turn, every "I wish this app could..." moment gets turned into a feature. Today's update is a big one.

Introducing Journey Planning

Until now, KamperHub's trip planner has been great for planning a single drive — home to destination with stops along the way. But what about those multi-day adventures? The coastal tour. The Big Lap. The "let's just head south and see what happens" kind of trip.

That's where Journey Planning comes in.

A journey is like a folder for your road trip. Instead of planning one massive route, you build your adventure one leg at a time — just like you actually travel.

How it works:

• Create a journey (e.g. "South Coast NSW")
• Add legs as you go — each leg is a separate drive from one place to the next
• Each leg gets its own fuel stops, accommodation, attractions, and route
• The Journey Overview shows your entire adventure on one interactive map

What you'll see:

• A colour-coded map: green for completed legs, blue for your current drive, amber for planned legs ahead
• A stats bar with total distance, number of legs, and total drive time
• Timeline cards for each leg showing fuel stops, accommodation bookings, attractions, and rest stops as coloured badges

Smarter "Add Stop" from Explore

When you're on the road and spot something interesting (or need fuel!), the Explore page now knows about your journeys. Tap the + button on any place and you'll see your trips and journeys separately. Expand a journey to pick the exact leg to add the stop to. If you haven't planned any legs yet, you can add stops straight to the journey.

After adding a stop, a "Return to Journey Planner" button takes you right back.

Route Lines Now Follow the Road

One thing that bugged me — the route line on the Explore map was drawing straight lines between points instead of following the actual roads. Fixed! The route now properly follows highways and roads using Google's Directions API.

What's Next?

I'm continuing to develop KamperHub on the road. The best features come from real-world experience, and I'm finding tweaks and improvements every day that will help all of us travel better.
