Winter Prep: Is Your Caravan Ready to Rest?

As the cooler months roll in, many of us are tucking our caravans away until spring. But a little prep now saves big headaches later.

Here are 5 things to check before you park up for winter.

1. Clean and Dry Everything

Give the interior a thorough clean — wipe down surfaces, vacuum carpets, and leave cupboard doors open for airflow. Moisture is your biggest enemy over winter. If you can, leave a moisture absorber inside.

2. Check Your Tyres

Tyres lose pressure sitting still. Inflate them to the manufacturer's recommended pressure, and if possible, move the caravan every few weeks to prevent flat spots. UV covers help protect sidewalls.

3. Disconnect and Charge Your Battery

A battery left connected will slowly drain. Disconnect it and give it a full charge. If you have lithium batteries, store them at around 50-60% charge — they'll thank you for it.

4. Protect Your Plumbing

Drain all water tanks, pipes, and the hot water system. Even a small amount of standing water can cause mould or freeze damage. Leave taps open so air can circulate through the lines.

5. Cover Up or Lock Down

A quality caravan cover keeps dust, bird droppings, and UV off your pride and joy. If you don't have a cover, at least close all vents and windows tightly. And don't forget — lock it up and check your insurance is current.
